Curb appeal is crazy important, especially when selling your home in Cleveland. It is the home buyers first impression. When they step out of their car, they look at the house and already know if they’ll even consider it. I see it all the time when working with buyers. When we walk up to a house and the landscaping a mess, maybe the paint of the front door is peeling, and the house just doesn’t look well kept, they shut down.
Conversely, when its well maintained they open up. In fact, I even coach buyers to look at how the outside is kept because it more then likely equates to how the rest of the house was kept. General a homeowner who does not maintain the small things in the house surely doesn’t maintain the large things, like HVAC, roof, foundation, etc… Whether thats true or not does not matter, the buyers believe it.
Paint Your Front Door.
For a small amount, painting your front door is one of my favorite ways to increase curb appeal. Choose a color that accents your home. Make it inviting. A front door is a focal point, make sure its pleasing to the eye. On many occasions I’ve been showing homes and come across one with peeling paint, and it has been commented on by the buyers every single time. Takes about 10 minutes to paint a door and not doing it can really turn off buyers.
A Cheerful Doormat
Nothing says welcome like a doormat that says…well, Welcome! But seriously, a fresh cheerful doormat is so simple and sets the stage for someone entering the home. Buyers love these!
Front door wreath
Drawing more cheer and attention to the focal point of your home, a wreath is a wonderful way to add color. Be sure to match it to the season! A freshly painted door, with a cheerful doormat and a wreath is sure to impress.
Old, worn run down number show you don’t care. Spruce it up with some new, modern address numbers that accent your home!
Plant Trees, Use Potted Plants, Add Flower Boxes
Cleaning up that old, unkept landscaping that you haven’t touched in years. Adding something fresh and colorful. Consider using planters to bring extra color. Place a planter on each side of the front door to bring an even, balanced feeling. This is pleasing to the eye and will improve the exterior look to buyers.
Clean Your Roof
I cant tell you how often this comes up. An old roof is a deal breaker for many people. Many times the roof isn’t even that old, but maybe has moss on it, it looks a little beat from overhead treas. Getting your roof cleaned will make it look newer and buyers will worry a lot less. As one of the largest expenses considered when buying a home, almost every single home shopper out there will look at the roof first thing.
Same as a roof, a filthy driveway may look older. A run down deck may gain new life by simply pressure washing it. Think of pressure washing as just cleaning. Would you buy a car that was filthy? Not for top dollar you wouldn’t. Pressure wash the exterior of your house, drove, decks and patios and your home will look fresh and new. Buyers will feel comfortable you’ve taken care of the home and will love it before even going inside.
Are you in the market to buy or sell? Do you know somebody who is? What can I do for you?
